Seeing that there's a new app that fixed the multi-GPU issues, I thought I'd try again since the previous one didn't work well on my mixed Nvidia / AMD system. Nvidia assignment now works correctly but tasks are failing on my Radeon VII with this error:

<core_client_version>7.14.2</core_client_version>
<![CDATA[
<message>
(unknown error) - exit code -6 (0xfffffffa)</message>
<stderr_txt>
Received work unit: 189087579814020
Data: n1: 923, n2: 411, n3: 907, di: 0, ch: 12
clCreateCommandQueueWithProperties : CL_OUT_OF_HOST_MEMORY

I'm not sure if this error refers to VRAM or system RAM. This host has 32 GB of RAM and wasn't near using the swap so either way this seems like a bug.

Hi, stupid question but I see you're on Windows 8.1. Would it be possible to upgrade it to Windows 10? Or at the minimum upgrade / fresh install the latest AMD driver from the website

What driver is your Radeon VII on anyways? We have a user with like a 'dozen' Radeon VIIs and they're all working fine on Kaktwoos-cl : Windows 10 and the 20.5.1/2 driver with no issues.

Thanks for the quick reply. It's a legitimate question. I'm using 19.6.3. Upgrading to Win10 isn't happening for awhile, and I can't upgrade the driver as AMD has blocked driver installation on Win8; I get a message saying the OS isn't supported. There's probably a kludge but this system is working perfectly otherwise so I'm not going to pursue it further.

I expected this would be a general problem not specific to me. The VII is mostly used on the MilkyWay project, I only tried running it again to see if it worked since the app update here. If no one else is having this issue I wouldn't worry about it.

I got an idea, but can you try manually extracting or installing : https://drivers.amd.com/drivers/prographics/win10-radeon-pro-software-enterprise-20.q2.exe this driver?

19.6.2 is def on the older side and I use 19.11.2 without issue on my Vega 56... on Win 10

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhBLqTVxcBM for example. Issue is getting the updated OpenCL runtime but, give it a shot

You can install the drivers manually via the following method:
1. Download newest version for Windows 7 x64 https://drivers.amd.com/drivers/beta/win7-radeon-software-adrenalin-2020-edition-20.4.1-apr2.exe
2. Start installation, select folder for unpacking (normally C:\AMD\)
3. When the message that it could not be installed appears, close program
4. In "Device Manager" select your device with mouse right click and choose "Update Driver Software..."
5. Select "Browse my computer for driver software"
6. In next screen browse to folder where installation is extracted and choose folder "AMD\Win7-Radeon-Software-Adrenalin-2020-Edition-20.4.1-Apr2\Packages\Drivers\Display\W76A_INF"(*), click "Next" and wait for installation of driver to finish
7. Now to install CCC (Control Panel), go to "Program Files\AMD\CCC2\Install" folder, run "ccc2_install.exe", and wait to finish installation (it could take few minutes)
8. In "Start" menu find group "AMD Settings" run Program "AMD Settings" and configure it (it must to be run manually first time to activate auto start of all services and programs)
9. Wait few minutes for background processes to finish and Restart system (not "Shutdown" and turn on)

It's probably possible to use the 20.5.1 drivers for Win10 the same way. (Don't use 20.7.1 as they're bugged, for me at least).

(*) The folder could also be called "AMD_Radeon_Installer_20.4.1\Packages\Drivers\Display\WT6A_INF" as somewhere around this time AMD changed the directory naming scheme.

Thanks for the tips. I will try this on the weekend when I have time to fix things in case there's a disaster.

I tried 20.4.2 and 20.q1., both for Win7, (Win10 versions will not install, the OS says the current driver is the latest even if no driver is installed) with the same result. Both were installed after using DDU to remove the current driver. MilkyWay work runs normally so everything seems ok otherwise. This particular system is unique and I don't see any need to pursue this further since no one else has reported a problem.
