1) Message boards : News : High error rate on 'Loneliest Seed' tasks for older GPUs (Message 1262)

But unlike minecraft@home, PrimeGrid will run down to Fermi GPUs (400 series)

But Prime Grid still has tasks that support them, unlike Minecraft which by comparison is just a baby so doesn't have the legacy support. There is no Boinc Programmer that Projects share, so what one Project knows, ie PG, if other Projects don't ask and get a positive response there is no sharing of the intel. It's alot like the glibc problem LLMentorGrid fell into as they used the latest version of glibc which only came with the latest versions of Linux, so ALOT of people were left out.

Thanks so much for your work boysanic it is appreciated.

My tasks have all run to 100% and then sit there awhile before they error out, but they do run, it seems to be a problem when the job finalizes and then reports.

Hey boysanic. If you need help on how to implement badges maybe you could reach out to some admin of another project such as Primegrid. They should know how to do that.

I believe Richard Haselgrove is the go to guy for things like that, you can reach him thru the Official Boinc channels that you Admins have available to you, or a PM if he is crunching here.

Hi Steve,

I visited their website yesterday but it was unclear to me how to export.

Can you point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to do it :)

It starts with you exporting the stats to a file, then making that file publicly downloadable in a certain folder where the stats sites will grab it and import it into the stats. The problem is I don't know any more than that ie what kind of file or the actual folder to put it in. You can chose how often to run the stats on your system, some projects do it multiple times per day while other projects only do it once per day.

I too have the same errors under Windows 11 in all 91 wu that BOINC 8.0.4 has downloaded.

Today, Sunday in the US, my Windows pc's have been able to download and process the new cpu tasks, my Linux pc's too!!!

7) Message boards : Number crunching : Very low credits per task (Message 991)
Posted 17 Jan 2025 by mikey
Post:
Hi everyone,

I have updated future workunits for this project to award 50,000 credits per task.
Any that are currently running will remain at 2500 to avoid inconsistency issues with existing completed tasks or in progress tasks.
Please let me know if you notice any issues.

Thanks!

VERY NICE, thank you very much!!

Other projects have no issues adjusting credits per task when new types of work are released. Doesn't cause any issues with the projects science results.

EXACTLY from now on is okay with me too.

Why just to show that you are ahead of me and pulling away? Now if I had somewhere near the 220 Badge for times he 's been User Of The Day I would post that thing here there and everywhere!!

A halfway reasonable loan should be possible without any problems.

Wish I could as the guy ahead of me, #3 on the list, is pulling away from me at the rate of 10 Million credits per day, so there's no point in even trying to catch him at this point.

I have created a comparison list with the credits achieved per second by my graphics card. Compared to even the currently worst project, it is still 50% lower.

Numberfield get 1.02 Cr/sec
Amicable get 97,6 Cr/sec
Einstein get 18,01 Cr/sec
GPUGrid get 32,4 uo to 229 Cr/sec
SRBase get 88,1 Cr/sec
Gerasim get 36,9 Cr/sec
Private GFN Server get 7,6 Cr/sec

Here is what you give us: 0,434 Cr/sec

If you are in it for the credits stay with the higher producing Projects and leave the rest for those of us that don't care about credits anymore..

16) Message boards : Science : Science Commons Initiative is looking for programmer with BOINC experience for new BOINC project. (Message 794)
Posted 11 Feb 2023 by mikey
Post:
The Science Commons Initiative and the Microgrid Working Group are looking for a software engineer with a love of science and the desire to connect scientists with the compute resources they need!

You will need an understanding of Python and PHP (any c++ experience is definitely a plus), and loose familiarity with or a willingness to learn a bit of Blender.

In short, The SCI's Micgrogrid Working Group is developing a platform designed to connect researchers with compute needs to the distributed computing network BOINC. We will be interacting with researchers, discussing their needs, and designing and developing their computing applications that will run on the Microgrid platform.

Our MVP will be two applications that run on the BOINC infrastructure.

1. A prime number discovery application
2. A video/gfx rendering application

The SCI is a non-profit organization with limited funding, but we have set aside a small budget to get the Microgrid project off the ground.

If we successfully launch our MVP and a few subsequent applications, the project has the potential to turn into a fairly large OSS endeavor with long term positions available.

The Microgrid-WG release post can be found at

For science!

You might want to look at the various Boinc Projects for the user Richard Haselgrove, I think that's his name, he is an Admin with the Boinc software group so may have the contacts you are looking for.

Hey Mikey! I see we've both cut back on our crunching a bit.

Oh yeah Summer is killing my electric bill so my gpu's are only on enough to try new, for me, projects like this one and to maintain enough rac to post.
I took all my gpu's off line but added about 30 cpu's core and still cut the electric bill by over $100US last month, the a/c units are running much less right now.

You have to be crazy to run BOINC. So that's checked.
