GPU calculation error
(Message 1264)
Posted 16 May 2025 by Keith Myers Post: Could be, the Maxwell 2 cards are supposed to be supported, but the app has to make some drastic changes in running to accommodate those cards. Your card might be an Maxwell type 1 card in fact and why it fails. Might PM boysanic specifically and ask him what the error indicates. He is the admin and main tester for the app developers. |

Stronghold Bookfinder - High Memory Usage
(Message 1259)
Posted 6 May 2025 by Keith Myers Post: My recommendation for beta apps is to also produce very small sized runs first to see how they fare among the crunching populace. No point in generating a ton of faulty work which wastes bandwidth and is going to have to be reissued anyway. When the return rate is above 90% successful, then you can go for full deployment and remove beta status. |

Stronghold Bookfinder - High Memory Usage
(Message 1255)
Posted 6 May 2025 by Keith Myers Post: Did you just run the task locally on a host? Or did you run it through an actual production Boinc environment? I never saw a beta release for the app where you set up a very limited run of tasks sent to a few hosts before sending it into production. I just saw the app in the applications list with no tasks available and then overnight, there were thousands of the tasks generated and ready to send and all my hosts were fully loaded with these faulty tasks. If there was a beta period, it was staggeringly short. We appreciate your work running the site. Didn't know you were a one-man show though. I had assumed from your Discord server there were more of you, admins and developers. |

1.20 Find seeds with zero villages within a radius v1.08 failing on Quadro M5000
(Message 1186)
Posted 20 Apr 2025 by Keith Myers Post: The error message says it detects specifically a case for the Maxwell class gpu and makes some changes in the app code for it. But it does not handle the card correctly after that and produces instant errors. You still need to check with the developer boysanic and see if the app really CAN handle the Maxwell card and if it supposedly can, need to report to him the app is busted on your host. |

Xoroshigo2 v1.05 - Runtime fix
(Message 1168)
Posted 19 Apr 2025 by Keith Myers Post: @boysanic didn't indicate that any task returned after deadline would get credit AFAIK. So no point in continuing to run the work after deadline in my opinion. |

Xoroshigo2 v1.04 - New plan classes
(Message 1155)
Posted 16 Apr 2025 by Keith Myers Post: Credit was already quite high for the given run time. I wouldn't suggest going higher. You're fixing the issue. If run times return to a more normal 1-2 hours the deadline is acceptable too. +1 I agree, especially for the already returned ones that were in fact valid and only invalidated because the tasks were cancelled by bad admin configurations. |

Xoroshigo2 v1.04 - New plan classes
(Message 1147)
Posted 15 Apr 2025 by Keith Myers Post: If the tasks get fixed back to the intended fixed runtimes, there will be no need to update the fixed credit system. But I agree we are getting shorted on credit for the current long running tasks for the amount of calculations we are inputting into the effort. Maybe we can be credited accordingly for these temporary long running tasks in the meantime. |

Xoroshigo2 v1.04 - New plan classes
(Message 1141)
Posted 14 Apr 2025 by Keith Myers Post: Is this new app making WUs run 10x longer? Don't know. We never saw this on the earlier apps. Developer said he tested the app for the first 50 confguration files and saw no issues. But the latest configuration files are screwing the app up or something. |

Xoroshigo2 v1.1 Issues Megathread
(Message 1140)
Posted 14 Apr 2025 by Keith Myers Post: I asked why the change in completion times on the project's Discord server from the developer. This is his reply. "The summary is that each config file tells the app to search with different sets of constraints. When developing the app I made sure to track the total number of loop iterations to ensure each version ran for the same amount of time, no matter how large of a space it was asked to search. My method seemed to work perfectly for the first 50 or so config files we sent out, but there seems to be some kind of pathological case that's screwing it up." No response after that so don't know whether they are working on a fix for this in a new app, or whether they are going to adjust the deadline dates or what? |

(Message 1132)
Posted 14 Apr 2025 by Keith Myers Post: I too am seeing much, much longer completion time estimates and progress percentages than all the prior tasks. The slower cpus are not going to be able to complete tasks within the current deadlines. Also, is the credit awarded going to be commensurate with the longer compute times needed. We're talking a 10X factor here at least compared to the credit awarded for the prior series of tasks that took 1 hour on modern cpus. |
