Hello, Minecraft@Home community! My name is August Renders™! I am an independent C.G. artist, animator, game designer and critic born on the autism spectrum. I come here in search of assistance for part of a Minecraft side project: I request of some help to crack a seed shown in an image file, as has been done for pack.png, the old Minecraft menu and other imagery. To discuss specific details, I wish to find the seed of an image displayed on the opening menu of an animated series entitled: "Minecraft: The N00b Adventures." Here's what I've done so far: -On the N00b Adventures Discord server, under the "#questions-and-suggestions" channel, I asked the community if they knew anything about the menu image, and someone provided the original screenshot used, having dug around in the .swf files of the Flash version of N00b Adventures Episode 5 on Newgrounds, along with the episode's metadata which displayed the following dates: Creation Date: 8-30-2011. Modification Date: 12-20-2011. These dates led me to presume that the image was taken between Beta 1.7 and Release 1.0.1. -After asking Falconer02 about the screenshot, he provided a rather sharp, unblurred version of the file; the screenshot in its original state! Some time later, he provided its metadata: Created: 4-3-2013. Modified: 11-21-2011. Presuming this was a backup image file, I figured it had to be the latter date, thus narrowing down the possible versions in which this image was taken to be between Beta 1.8 and Release 1.0.0. -Having watched SalC1's video on how the pack.png seed was found, I took my search to his Discord server, where I was reminded that I could find the coordinates by simply looking at the cloud shapes. It actually surprised me to confirm that both the 2D clouds and 3D clouds run off of the same texture file! (Stored under the "environment" folder in the game's texture files.) And I also learned that the uppermost portion of the clouds image actually faces east in-game. (Where the sun rises from.) In short, the "top" of the cloud image always faces the sun in-game. -With the ability to determine coordinates based on cloud location, I searched for a specific cloud in the shape of the letter "J", and found it at two different positions in the Z axis: 2784, which took 4 minutes and 25 seconds to reach, and -207 which only took 12 seconds. Falconer said he imagined the mountains within the screenshot were a minute or two away from spawn, and that all he remembered from the time he took it was, and I quote: "going into creative, flying around, and snapping a shot of it." Current Status: Now, we have a potential Z coordinate: -207. Given my target cloud's location, along with how Falconer said he believed the location was a minute or two away from spawn, I feel this could be where he stopped. The X axis would be more or less than -100 and 100 blocks, given where I met the specific cloud I was seeking. So now, what we need to do is to check seeds in versions Beta 1.8.0, Beta 1.8.1 and Release 1.0.0. If you're open to helping me in this little quest, please let me know. Sincerely, August Renders. |
