Almost time for production / full BOINC launch! Good luck to whoever calculates and finds the seed out of the billions of possibilities. May that weird pit be filled one day! |

If anyone is wondering, here is the image of the trailer terrain / hole we are trying to crack :) By estimates from the past full day of work, it will take around 42 days to complete all tasks! |

Which drivers are required to run these tasks as I am getting a message in BOINC to update to the latest drivers to download tasks. I did not get this on the previous GPU tasks and have never had it from a BOINC project before. |

Download driver from here https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx You can see what gpu you have here https://minecraftathome.com/minecrafthome/hosts_user.php?userid=920 |

Download driver from here Thank you for that, I know where to get the drivers etc ( not being cheeky ) . I would like to know what is the minimum driver required for this project to run under windows as I have not been required to update GPU drivers before other than on GPUGrid. All other BOINC GPU projects run quite happily on my current 416.34 drivers. |

Those are rather old. I think most projects require minimum 418 version drivers. Why not update to the latest? The 470 series is running quite well. And most projects only use OpenCL applications which can run on quite old drivers. These are proper CUDA applications which use the full horsepower of Nvidia cards. |

They are a bit old but they work well on my mix of 9xx and 10xx series cards which are on Windows 7. As I said, they work on all other BOINC projects I run. Most driver updates are related to game updates and being on the latest driver is sometimes not the best option when you don't use the systems for gaming. If the project requires specific drivers it should state that in the requirements to run the tasks. If I had not checked the messages from my BOINC manager I would not know that Minecraft does not download tasks for nVidia below a certain driver, and it doesn't say what is the minimum required. How many just moved on when they couldn't get work from the project. |

Case in point, just downloaded and installed the latest 472.12 drivers. Sure, I now have the latest cuda to run minecraft, but no opencl support, so I can no longer run primegrid etc. If it is a choice of running minecraft or any other BOINC GPU project, then I'm afraid minecraft looses out. |

Did you install the standalone CUDA drivers for some reason? Or did you just update the normal system Nvidia drivers? I have never heard of standard package Windows drivers NOT include the OpenCL drivers. On Linux, yes that happens or has happened frequently in the past. |

No, the standard drivers update packages direct from nVidia. Have tried at least 5 different drivers, installed the cuda toolkit etc and no opencl drivers available, only the cuda drivers. Go back to 416.34 and I have cuda and opencl support again. Absolutely no idea. My Linux systems have cuda and opencl support and run the GPU app with no problem. |

Installing the CUDA toolkit is your problem. You shouldn't have done that. The toolkit installs its own CUDA only driver which overrides everything else. It never includes OpenCL, why would it. Its a competing platform. There is no need to ever install a CUDA toolkit unless you are a developer. The standard Nvidia drivers ALWAYS includes a run-time version of CUDA that works for all applications. |

Nope, installing the toolkit is not a problem as it includes it's own drivers and has the opencl libs. You can also install the kit without the packaged drivers if you wish. However it didn't work as a last desperate attempt and has been uninstalled. Whatever I do on this system results in a cuda only driver system, despite copying the same driver install download to a different win 7 system which installs to include both cuda and opencl drivers as it should. Absolutely no idea what is up with this system. Still, the original question was what is the minimum driver required to run this new GPU app. |

PM the admin Neil and ask him. I agree the response in the Log Event should at least tell what the minimum is if it is going to complain you don't have that. |

I presume it's based on the CUDA version rather than the actual driver ( well I hope so anyway ) The 416 drivers are CUDA 10 and the 470 drivers are CUDA 11 I believe. Doubt there is that much performance advantage between the two to not have the app some form of backwards compatible. For the system in question, I've just given up. It runs opencl 1.2 with no problems so can just stay as is until I finally just wipe it and install Linux on it, probably when the HDD dies when BOINC batters another disk to death. Thanks for replying to my questions. Seems it's just a bizarre problem with no logical reason. |

Hi, our minimum BOINC driver version for nvidia unironically NV-418 and newer because we chose that version last year as an "outdated driver" for reference. We had a lot of devices running ancient drivers (380 and older) and failing tasks, and once we set this restriction and got them to update, things worked better and it was easy to see who could run OpenCL 1.2 or not. |

Thanks for the reply. NV 416 drivers are fully opencl 1.2 and cuda 10 compatible but that doesn't matter. My problem is with a specific system of mine and not the new GPU tasks. I'll either figure it out or simply can't use that system. My other Win 7 and Linux systems have no issues. Maybe you should put the driver version required on the front page or as a sticky in the forum so that people can easily find what they need to run your tasks ? |

Thanks, I can give that one a try, but so far 5 other driver versions have failed to give this specific system cuda and opencl drivers available to BOINC. It's something very weird on this one computer that makes no sense. |
